Boy’s Room Update

BoysRoomUpdate14

Hello friends and welcome back for a special reveal I have been working on for the last couple months. Our oldest son, Zealand’s room has been the last bedroom in the house to receive a little love…

Therefore, I have had it on my mind to do a makeover on his space as he is quickly growing and I was thrilled that I was able to pull it together before the busy school year starts!

BoysRoomUpdate25

I wanted this room to feel modern and fresh all while still being a little boy’s room with space to play legos and build forts. A place he could grow into and that we wouldn’t have to turn around and change up again as he matured and his likes did too.

I loved the idea of lots of gray, weathered wood and some subtle pops of color. Texture, pattern and neutrals of course would be the heart of this spaces’s design ;)…

I so very much enjoyed making over my daughter’s room here, but was surprised what a treat this makeover was. It may be one of my favorite to date…

Some of the “must haves” for this space were toy storage as seen here with many baskets…

BoysRoomUpdate9

Form and function were imperative with lots of seating and tables to play, draw or build…

BoysRoomUpdate11

Practicality paired with style as seen here with this amazing Beddy’s bedding. You may recognize this bedding seen first in our daughter’s room here. I can’t say enough about it and this time we are using it on a bunk bed and just let me say, it is genius. Truly.

BoysRoomUpdate12

It is soft and cozy while easy to make with a simple zipper on each side.

Plus I couldn’t resist the fun stripes and geometric patterns. This was the starting point from how I began planning his room.

(Elephant print is from Hobby Lobby and Faux Turtle Shell is from Target)

I wanted to use what furniture we already had so I was able to chalk paint all of it and then added some Stikwood planks to the front of his dresser.

BoysRoomUpdate23

(Weathered wood on drawer fronts is Reclaimed Sierra Silver Stikwood Planks)

I couldn’t believe what a simple transformation these planks made!

BoysRoomUpdate5

A custom made map with his name makes the space his own and he smiles everytime I catch him peeking at it (found at Grafomap).

BoysRoomUpdate3

(Star pillow from Lorena Canals and Puppy Art Pillow from Hobby Lobby)

Stars and puppies make the room youthful and funky while fitting his vivid personality.

(Wall sconce from Lighting Design)

The lighting adds a industrial twist and made the room so much brighter (literally).

BoysRoomUpdate6

(Wallpaper is from Milton and King)

We incorporated this fractured geometric wallpaper. It is subtle, but delivers a dynamic feature to the space partnered with hanging terrariums (hung high to avoid getting knocked around).

BoysRoomUpdate19

(Shark mount is from Target)

Z loves to read up on sharks… so of course I had to add this friendly character to his lego building station.

BoysRoomUpdate26

(Large gray rug is from Land of Nod, small sheepskin rug is from Ikea and globe pouf is from Painted Fox – affiliate link in sidebar)

And I used the rug to tie it all together. It is a soft palette that unifies all the grays while giving texture with the repeated tally print.

BoysRoomUpdate22

Even though my guy likes gray he also loves color. So I had to add this Irish green bookcase with rolling wheels. He was over the moon with the bright addition!

BoysRoomUpdate10

(Adventure Awaits sign is from Back Road Sign Co.)

Because I want him to be reminded of adventure and seeking joy in the everyday… we incorporated this Adventure Awaits sign. A little reminder to hold on to as he imaginary plays many hours away in this new space of his.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out the makeover. It is always a joy to share and I am humbled you take the time to visit I hope you leave inspired…
