Shop The House Design Challenge

As the New Year rolls in, it brings with it challenges, goals, budget and other necessary changes. If you have followed along with zevy joy even for a little bit, you will know that I am a home decor lover and in addition I try to keep things as frugal as I can. Therefore, in wanting to put the focus on the idea of “shop the house”. I’ve teamed up with some amazing bloggers to encourage us as bloggers to get creative with the things we may already have. To also inspire you all to shop your house and be resourceful. We have each selected one area of our home that we will use throughout the challenge.  For the next four months we will completely restyle the space using only things we already have. We can DIY or transform pieces but only if we have the items on hand for the project. We would LOVE if you want to get creative and play along! Here are the fantastic ladies joining in the challenge…

Courtney from The Hamby Home

Allison from A House and A Dog

Kendra from Momtique

Brooke from Start at Home

Iris from Iris Nacole

I have selected our office/family/guest room because this room is the most multipurpose in our home. I have spent years trying to find the best fit for this space and I would also say this room changes the most.  Plus, it has our fireplace and mantel, which is always so much fun to restyle. I can’t wait to share each phase with you and hope you leave each time encouraged or inspired.  So without further introduction, this is our room in it’s current state or decor style…

This room is tiny but we have made it function well most recently…

I made the color scheme dark neutrals with a few pops of pink this last month.

We have a simple marble fireplace that shelves mantel decor. I have kept it winter themed with faux antler and deer head along with some rustic wood, chalkboard (tutorial here) and accessories.

In front of the fireplace sits our DIY sofa/bed (tutorial here). This has been a small house lifesaver.  We have tried everything in this room.  A sofa, a guest bed and more, but none of it really worked and left our room feeling out of place or unused. This sofa bed gives us versatility and function. We can lounge or host guests in town.

I hang my clothespin wreath (tutorial here) and keep the decorative elements easy like the branches down below…

Pillows and more pillows fill this room, but that goes pretty much for any room in our home =).

The files cabinets house important documents but dually serve as side tables.

There is addtional seating with a stool and storage ottoman. Lots of places to visit even though the space is tiny!

On the opposite side of the room is a chest of drawers that stores craft supplies/fabric.
