Fall is a season of change and reflection, symbolized by the transformation of green leaves into a kaleidoscope of reds, oranges, and yellows. This natural beauty is epitomized by maple leaves, which are known for their brilliant colors and unique shapes. Eucalyptus, with its subtle brown and orange tones, complements the vivid colors of fall foliage. Together, these elements create a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing decor palette that captures the essence of the season.
Maple Leaves: A Burst of Color
Maple leaves are iconic symbols of autumn. They are not only beautiful but also versatile, lending themselves to a variety of decor styles. Whether you prefer a rustic, traditional, or modern aesthetic, maple leaves can enhance your space with their vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Their natural beauty adds warmth and depth to any room, making them a popular choice for fall decorating.
I went with the green option for these maple leaves as I wanted to set them up earlier in the season. It felt true to the slowly changing colors and allows for some green without doing warm orange, brown, and red colors.
Eucalyptus: An Elegant Touch
Eucalyptus leaves, known for their calming aroma and delicate appearance, are a wonderful addition to fall decor. Their muted colors provide a soft contrast to the bold hues of maple leaves, creating a balanced and serene atmosphere. Eucalyptus is easily used all year long, typically in the spring and summer months seen with that blue green hue. Although, as I was taking a walk in our California neighborhood… I noticed fallen eucalyptus branches and in fact, they were this very color: a brown/orange!
Incorporating Fall Foliage into Your Decor
1. Wreaths and Garlands
Wreaths and garlands are classic fall decor items that can be easily customized with maple leaves and eucalyptus. Create a stunning wreath by combining different types of maple leaves with sprigs of eucalyptus, adding berries, pinecones, or small pumpkins for extra texture and interest. Hang your wreath on the front door or above the fireplace to welcome guests with a burst of autumnal charm.
Garlands can be draped along staircases, mantels, or tabletops. Mix and match the foliage, incorporating dried flowers or other seasonal elements for a dynamic and eye-catching display.
2. Centerpieces
Design a beautiful fall centerpiece by arranging maple leaves and eucalyptus in a vase or bowl. For a more elaborate display, combine the foliage with candles, branches, and seasonal fruits like apples and pears. This arrangement can serve as a focal point on your dining table, coffee table, or sideboard, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for gatherings and everyday living.
3. Wall Art
Get creative with wall art by pressing and framing maple leaves and eucalyptus. This DIY project is simple yet effective, allowing you to showcase the beauty of fall foliage in a unique and personalized way. Choose a variety of leaves in different colors and sizes, press them between sheets of wax paper, and frame them in a shadow box or traditional frame. Hang your creations in the living room, bedroom, or hallway to add a touch of autumn to your walls.
4. Bouquets and Arrangements
Bouquets and arrangements are a versatile way to incorporate fall foliage into your decor. Combine maple leaves and eucalyptus with other seasonal flowers like sunflowers, chrysanthemums, or dahlias for a vibrant and textured bouquet. Place these arrangements in vases or jars and display them on countertops, shelves, or windowsills to bring the beauty of fall into every corner of your home.
5. Outdoor Decor
Extend your fall decor to your outdoor spaces by using maple leaves and eucalyptus in your porch or patio decorations. Create a welcoming entryway with potted plants featuring eucalyptus and ornamental grasses, accented with pumpkins and gourds. Scatter maple leaves on your outdoor furniture or arrange them in lanterns and candle holders for a cozy, autumnal vibe.
A Little Project Update: Fireplace
You may have noticed that these arrangements were sitting on our fireplace. At the end of summer we decided to start our big fireplace project. While it wasn’t the original plan we had in mind due to budget… We pivoted and went with another option. Here is the before and a peek at the progress. I will share a whole post on this soon.
In order to make this affordable, we chose to use any scrap material we already had at home. We are basically using the original shell of our fireplace we had but making adjustments. This involved building up and out. As you can see below the entire piece is raised up. Now the hearth double as a place to sit. We are going with a tapered design and I sourced a unique faux brick veneer product that I am really excited to use! Once we get it all covered up, I will begin the brick process. I can’t wait to share this all with you as it will be ready come holiday season.
I couldn’t resist displaying my new fall maple leaves here… This is going to be such a statement in this room!
