Christmas sweets really are the best and can it get much better than a holiday cookie?!… I don’t think so ;).

These cookies were adapted again from our family recipe box and it belonged originally to my great great grandmother.

Like the last few recipes I have shared, this one is available gluten/dairy free or originally as the recipe was intended.

I really enjoyed this recipe because it was easy to throw together and only took a handful of ingredients. Don’t get me wrong, I love a detailed and involved recipe sometimes, but let’s face it… Every once in a while, I just have time for something quick! This would also make a great baking day recipe as it yields many cookies!

Here are the ingredients you will need to bake these cookies up (Yields around 3 dozen total):

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup of softened butter (we used this df version)
  • 2 well beaten eggs (you could use flax seed in place for allergies)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda (dissolved in a tiny bit of water)
  • 3 cups of sifted flour (we used this gf version)
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar.
  • 1 tbsp. of sugar (for sprinkling at end)
  • 1 tbsp. of cinnamon (for sprinkling at end)

And here is how you will bake them up:

  • Mix tablespoons of sugar and cinnamon to make a sprinkling mix.
  • Sprinkle each unbaked cookie with your cinnamon sugar mixture…
  • Bake cookies in oven for about 10 minutes (until golden around edges and on the bottom of each cookie).

  • Pull cookies out and let them cool. If you are using gluten/dairy/egg free ingredients expect that your cookies may have a flatter consistency to them. While they were not as fluffy, they were still soft (which is most important in my opinion ;).

Don’t forget to enjoy these with a nice cup of milk (almond if needed) and enjoy!

These cookies were a hit around here and I definitely plan to make them throughout the holidays! I hope you may enjoy trying them out too! A big thank you to Kristen for organizing this yummy hop and don’t forget to stop by each recipe below.

I look forward to seeing you later this week as I will be anxious to share some of our home dressed for the season…
