How To Make Flowers From Cupcake Liners!

Have you ever seen something crafted that was made with everyday items, so simple yet so pretty?! Well that is what I feel about today’s project! It is such a fun way to use cupcake liners by making them into flowers. I joined Ashley from Modern Glam Home and Janine from The Happy Happy Nester to showcase some spring paper crafts with our friends.

You are going to see what I mean when I say that this project was so easy. In fact it makes me think it would be a great classroom craft as well! Anyhow, here are the things you will need to put these together…

  • Cupcake liners (of different sizes and colors)
  • Scissors
  • Floral tape or you can use a glue to adhere the layers even more (I used a glue gun).
  • Pencil

Here is how I assembled these sweet flowers…

To start, you will take about 6 large cupcake liners and fold them in half all together. Then like you would with a paper snowflake, begin cutting petal shapes. I made about five total petals when it was folded in half like this… Open them up for later.

Then I took another few cupcake liners and again, folded them in half. This time, I cut about 4 larger petals and open them up for layering later. I wanted there to be some variation…

Next, you will fold a couple yellow liners (any color would be fine) to make the center of your flower. Instead of petals, you will be cutting and making lots of strips across the liner like so…

Take the center and open it. You will want to twist the bottom center so it looks like this below.

Then you will assemble the whole flower by putting the yellow center into the middle of the other layers. For reference, I put the few larger petaled liners on the outside and the 6 smaller petaled liners next with the yellow being the last layer.

You will twist and roll the center of the bottom of the liners and the petals will come together as seen here…

If you are having trouble managing all the layers, you can use a pencil to create the shape from the inside center.

To finish things off you can wrap the outside pinched center with floral tape or I later chose to glue the layers so they would be even more secure.

To make things a bit more realistic, I used a pencil to roll the petals toward the center and give them a bit more shape.

There are so many things you could do with this craft!

I threw one into a bouquet just to see how it would look and it looked pretty good! You could also add faux stems to these and fill a vase.

Or you could use them to adorn a gift, headband, cake… The list goes on!

I played around with other shapes and made this pink rose or carnation looking one by using the shape of bigger petals. I rolled a little ball into the center too.

I ran out of time, but I think there are so many styles of flowers to make with these liners!

I will have to play around again with these real soon…
