How To Make A Valentine’s Day Floral Arrangement!

Still over here in the thick of kitchen cabinet painting, haha! But, I should be done this week and I cannot wait to share with you! Until then, I took a little break to arrange flowers (one of my favorite things to do). And this arrangement was made specially for Valentine’s Day. I am joining Sheila at Maison de Cinq and some friends to share some pretty Valentine’s Day ideas so make sure to visit those at the end!

Earlier last week, I had shared how to arrange flowers over on Instagram stories and so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share again, yet this time on the blog!

Here are the steps I like to follow for some easy flower arranging…

I grabbed this glass vase at the thrift store. It was on sale for 1.29 so it was a steal! When thinking about vases I typically prefer those with a wider mouth. This allows the flowers to spill out and have beautiful movement within the vase.

I like to grab a 4-5 inexpensive bunches of eucalyptus, fillers and florals at the local grocery store.

Eucalyptus is a wonderful choice because it drapes down so pretty within floral arrangements.

Fillers can be anything from more greenery to smaller filler type flowers. I like to think of them as standing up straighter than the eucalyptus will within a vase.

Flowers steal the show with their magnificent colors. And don’t get stuck on thinking that Valentine’s Day arrangements need to be red. Shades of pink are just as pretty!

Now onto the steps for arranging like this! I describe flower arranging with layers, three to be exact… These layers will ascend into a dome shape visually once you are done… Let me show you what I mean:

  • Layer 1- put in the drooping eucalyptus!

  • Layer 2 – Add your fillers (these are the stems that stand straighter up).

  • Layer 3 – Finish with your flowers! I insert them in randomly and organically. I don’t want things to look too perfect and I want bunches of flowers spread throughout. Some are higher than others and it flows asymmetrically. This is where you will begin to see that dome shape come together. The fillers and flowers in the middle rise higher as those that are closer to the edge fall shorter.

A little something extra I like to add when I can, is some fruit to the arrangement. It just makes everything a little more special. I had these faux plums on hand and the color worked so well with this arrangement, I chose to put a couple throughout.

This type of arrangement would be beautiful as a centerpiece for a Valentine’s Day dinner or as a stand alone on your dining table for the season.

I love the simplicity of dishes, wood bowls and a tray sitting together as decor on a table.

There is something so calm and pretty about it all…
