How To Decorate For Fall And Do It On A Budget.

Hi sweet friends… Oh my goodness do I have so much to share with you. It has been a whirlwind of a month for us at home and I have yet to tell you that we have moved. It came about extremely quick and after much prayer, things just fell together and we made the choice to sell our home (it all sold within 48 hours). We are now temporarily living (for the next 3-6 months) with my husband’s grandfather as we navigate the purchase of our next place. This was such a bittersweet experience and involved many tears as we said goodbye to our sweet home. All that being said, I am looking up and moving forward as we transition into this next season and I am grateful to have you along with me. And what a better way to share our little
“home for now” than to be joining my sweet friend Kristen at Ella Claire & Co. to share some budget friendly fall decor ideas!

I need to disclose, that we literally fully moved less than a week ago… So things are still in progress. But I have always felt it important to get the homey and cozy feeling going as soon as you can. It makes the change a little bit easier.

I want to share how I pull together fall on a budget as that is something we are being especially intentional about during this time as a family here.

I have been on the hunt for some pretty dried florals (German Statice to be exact) and it is quite expensive for the amount I wanted. So instead I found these faux stems and they resemble what I had in mind quite well! Make sure to check seasonal sales at your local craft stores. Most times florals are marked 40-50% which is a great deal. This big bunch cost me around twenty dollars by using a coupon!

This arrangement was extremely easy to throw together! I plopped the stems into my favorite vase and love the look!

Using neutrals allows you transition decor throughout the seasons and reuse it over and over.

I have a stash of blankets that I pull out depending on their weight and texture. This helps me avoid buying more when I don’t really need it and this cable knit throw was the perfect addition for cozy fall nights.

Our most recent project was this fireplace (it is nearly done but still needs a bit of work) and was a creation made from all the scraps we have from our old home. So it holds a bit of history and memories too which really means a lot to me. Anyways, the point of all of that is… (haha) that even if you don’t have a fireplace, consider building a faux one or buying a second hand one (as this is always cost effective too). Fireplaces evoke that feeling of warmth and are such a treat to decorate throughout the holidays.

Speaking of decorating fireplaces, adding thrifted brass candlesticks is a lovely way to give ambience to the room as well. I have collected these throughout the years and this is my favorite time of year to use them all the way through Christmas.

Don’t forget to put a faux flickering candle on your coffee table as well! Using faux makes it less expensive as you don’t have to continue buying them as they burn out throughout the days.

Last but not least, throw a little faux pumpkin here and there!

While I will buy a few real ones once they became available, I love to have some everlasting ones on hand ;).

They make it so that I can mingle real and faux without spending a fortune. And honestly, one or two go a long way so there is no need to buy a dozen.

And that is it for today… I hope you enjoyed and I always hope that these posts are helpful. I know how much I love putting them together and sharing a little bit of my heart with you.

While I resisted the idea of moving and dragged my feet (maybe cried more than I would like to admit) throughout the process… I know the true meaning of “home”. It doesn’t come from the finish of my floors, the size of my kitchen or whether my home is borrowed, bought, etc… It comes from the people we spend our time with there; the memories, the experience and the love. That is what I want to translate most when I share with you here. Thanks for being along for the adventure and where it takes us from here on out!

  1. My very BEST WISHES to you in this new venture of yours. I hope and pray you find a new home soon. Funny, hubs and I have been discussing selling and I tear up even thinking about it. So many memories in a much-loved home makes it difficult.

Homes here, too, are literally selling same day and higher asking prices – going soooo fast.

So when the time is right and it becomes more of a buyer’s market and now a seller’s market, I know you will find the right thing.

Your blog post was inspirational, beautiful and helpful, thank you. Happy Autumn.

    Stay well.

    1. Michele thank you so much! This was the sweetest message and so encouraging… I really appreciate it and you being here. Best wishes to you both as you make your decisions too!

  2. I think you have done a great job in such a short time. You and Hubby were wise to sell during a seller market. Also fortunate to have a Grandfather. Now you have time to investigate what you want or need and will be ready for the buyers market it will probably come sooner than you expect. . Cash Sunk, usually, is not redeemable.

    1. M thank you! This encouragement is always so helpful to hear… I am trusting that and agree as we are thankful that we have somewhere to go that we can call home. I really appreciate you stopping by and sharing with me!
