Exploring Neutrals, Blues & Greens: Finding the Perfect Paint for Our Family Room

We’re giving our family room a fresh look and starting with the walls. To find the perfect color, we’ve been exploring a mix of neutral, blue, and green paint samples to see which shade feels just right.

Picking the right color can completely transform a space, and we want something that feels warm, inviting, and timeless. Follow along as we share our favorites, surprises, and the decision-making process behind choosing the perfect hue.

built-in bookshelf

You may remember me sharing recently that we took this converted wet bar, and after 4 years decided we were ready to turn it into a bookshelf! We wanted it to have a built-in look so we started putting this together last month.

It is still very much a work in progress! Here you can see what it looks like so far. We need to add the finish work to it and we will get there eventually. This year I fully intend to get projects done, but I really want to make sure we aren’t stressing about timelines and getting things done in a realistic timeframe for our family.

While we continue to chip away at the built-in, we also made the decision to paint this room. I love having Westhighland white on our walls throughout and in the formal living area. But we were ready for a change in here. This current paint color is Pure White. For the new paint, I wanted something that would go well with our current kitchen cabinet colors, fit the vibe of our home and feel fresh.

I’m sharing photos straight from our phone in our lived in home! You are seeing the process in true form.

I ordered so many samples! Here is a list of what I sampled:

  • Shoji White
  • Repose Gray
  • Slipper Satin
  • Horizon
  • Sensible Hue
  • Gossamer Veil
  • Boothbay Gray
  • Oyster Bay
  • Oyster White
  • Pigeon

Let me start off by telling you, I really LOVED all of these! They were each so pretty and in the perfect spaces would be amazing. So many of them actually would work in here, but I had some specifics I was really going for. I narrowed it down to my top 3 here below.

If we were going with something that was a bit deeper in tone, yet really not a lot of color and also not white, it would be this Gossamer Veil pictured first on top. It is a lovely earthy color that has nice warmth. It feels like a statement while still being neutral and safe. It didn’t pull pink which is great too.

Next, if we wanted the most color overall, it would be with Sensible Hue (pictured in the middle). It is gorgeous. The perfect sage that has a feeling of gray, sage and even some blue. While it is a true color, it still feels neutral. It is truly a breath of fresh air. Soft and calming.

Lastly, if we were going to stay with a white paint in here, I definitely wanted it to be creamy. I really really liked Oyster White. You can see it pictured above (bottom of the 3). It has beautiful depth, is warm, but not too yellow.

These are our top 3, but we have chosen a winner! I’m hoping to start putting this paint up this week. We will see if I can make it happen. Until then I’ll be curious to hear if you have a favorite? I can’t wait to show you!

We were given these amazing citrus fruits (honestly I don’t know what they are called specifically). They are like candy and the easiest to peel! What a treat, they are nearly gone now. They were so pretty I had to grab a photo to share alongside our grocery store greenery.

Thanks for the visit and see you soon!
