Our Stairway Makeover!
A Look At How We Updated Our Stairway!
A Makeover For Our Stairway…
I can’t believe how long it has taken me to put this post together of our stairway makeover! We started this project way back in March and finally finished it in early June. It (like some projects can go, lol) was more involved than we expected. But we are so happy with how it turned out! As a reminder this was a temporary bandaid until we finish them in the future with new wood. I am going share how we broke down the project. It only cost us, compound filler, a gallon of paint and wood for the riser portion of the stairs.
First we peel back the carpet to see what was under the stairs and how it looked.
Once we determined we could make this plywood work, we began removing all the carpet and the nails.
They plywood was in overall good shape. We cleaned it all up really good. When we removed the carpet it also removed some of the drywall.
After some time, we decided we didn’t care for the chunky look of the step. So we removed the fronts. We also made sure to keep things up to code and that the thickness was safe. This was an important step!
Next we filled the holes and blemishes with compound.
The fun part came in decided what paint color to use for the steps. We tried a few samples, but landed on something that matched our temporary concrete floors well.
Believe it or not, but we will be changing that paint color in the next month again… I can’t wait to share why with you soon!
We also fixed all the drywall and added the risers to the steps. It began to look so much better!
Here we are filling, cauking, repairing and feeling very tired at this point =)… But it is always worth it!
And just for fun, here is the before photo one last time…
Here is the after!!! We couldn’t be happier for how much cleaner, fresh and bright this stairway makeover feels. Making this house our home has been such a joy and what a treat to share with you all regularly. Thank you always for the encouragement, the kind comments and visiting with me here. I appreciate you all.
