Budget Friendly Christmas Decor In Our Family Room
Tips For Decorating For Christmas On A Budget!
How To Decorate For Christmas On A Budget!
How can it be that this is the first Christmas post of the year?! I won’t lie, decorating this season has felt extra sentimental and special… Since moving from our home unpacking our boxes and putting up the decor really made it feel as though we brought a little bit of home with us. So I am doubly excited to share some of our Christmas decorations with you today and how we do it on a budget! I am joining sweet Kristen from Ella Claire & Co. to share these helpful ideas, tips and projects as well…
I am going to break this post up into tips/tricks that I use when decorating for the season and doing it thrifty or on a budget. For starters, I like to pull out old books and have them sprinkled around… These particular ones have linen covers and PEACE, JOY and LOVE sample on their spines. But Christmas messages would be super sweet too!
I always have ornaments somewhere on the coffee table. Half of these came from a dollar store.
Stock up on collections of Dollar Store ornaments as they make great fillers, gift tags and additions to the tree!
You can see I have them placed inside this wooden dough bowl and they add a little interest to the surface.
Invest in and collect clearance garland and stems after the season!
It took nearly three years, but I grabbed this pretty garland after the season and now I use it every single year. I combine it with some of my magnolia garland as well.
Use a faux mantle and fill it up with candles (the Dollar Store is another great place for candles)! While we would have loved to have an electric fireplace down here, it wasn’t practical for the short time we would be living here. So we built this one with extra lumber we had on hand. But you can find fireplace boxes thrifting or online second hand!
Since I don’t want to be lighting these candles all the time, I like to throw my fairy lights in there and it makes the prettiest glow!
I may actually trade out these real candles for my electric ones which I can just turn on with a remote, lol…
Mix faux and real greenery together! Faux can get pricey if you are trying to buy it all at once… So I like to clip some evergreens outside and combine them with my fakes.
I do this with most of my arrangements and I find that the mix makes things look and feel more real!
One of the things I love about decorating this time of year is the plain greenery goes a long way all by itself and makes things beautiful.
Which just goes to show that simple is elegant and so lovely…
Thrifting is a wonderful way to collect unique pieces for Christmas season…
Again like garland, books, etc… Brass candlesticks are something that I keep an eye open for when thrifting. I buy them when I find them and spread them across the mantel and table surfaces.
While I still have more to put up and the rest of this room to show you, plus our tree… I wanted to show how we get the decorating going and how we do it without spending a fortune!
I hope that it was helpful and encourages you as we prepare our homes for this magical time of year. I can’t wait to share the rest as our tree comes together this week! Till then…
