To make these fun treats you will need a few apples, bag of melting chocolate (I added some coconut oil to mine but if you do this they will melt very quickly), orange fondant, and skinny treat sticks. To start you just slice the apples into thick slices as seen below.

Then you carefully insert the sticks. You can cut the center seeds (this will create a hole that needs to be filled with chocolate) so I chose to keep them in and made sure that whoever was eating them knew to eat around the centers.

Melt the chocolate and then fully submerge the apple slices into the melted chocolate.

I decided to dip my twice once the chocolate hardened the first time because I wanted a nice thick chocolate layer. Place the chocolate covered apples on a parchment lined cookie sheet. I let mine sit in the freezer for a bit so they would harden (this will depend on what type of melting chocolate you use too).

While the chocolate hardens on the apple slices in the freezer, roll out some orange fondant.

Then cut it into triangles for eyes/noses and the shapes of carved mouths for the pumpkin.

Take the apple slices and simply place the fondant pieces on top. They stuck very well without needing anything extra. Then place everything back in the freezer to harden.

Because these are fresh apple slices and I added coconut oil to the chocolate they will need to be eaten soon after making. They make it for a bit in the fridge but I would encourage you to try this when you know they will be consumed shortly after.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoy these Jack-O’-Lantern chocolate covered apple slices! Here are all the other wonderful Halloween recipes down below for you to check out too!

  1. Apples and chocolate are great together. I need to ask one question…
how did you keep the juice of the apple from turning the chocolate to liquid. I would like to make peanut butter and apple sandwiches but the juice from the apples turn the peanut butter to soup. What can I do to the apple to keep the juice from destroying the peanut butter
