Designing and creating on a simple budget.

An inexpensive Headboard Idea

June 30, 2015 inspiration, our home, Tutorials, Uncategorized

I will show you how I transformed a rug into an inexpensive headboard idea!

A bedroom with white bedding, a wooden headboard and a woven rug above it.

Awhile back I had seen a clever idea to use a scalloped mirror over your headboard as art and loved the look.  The mirror was out of our budget but several years later, I have continued to think about how I could make this statement look happen on a budget.  I happened upon this rug on sale at World Market and recognized the shape. I instantly was inspired by the scalloped mirror and folded the rug in half to make the same design.

A woven rug above the headboard, a chandelier and a tray with candles and a plant on it.

I brought the textured rug home and hammered in some long nails to hang it above our bed and headboard.  It worked perfectly over our queen sized frame and is just the customized look I was going for, for much much less. It is fun to think outside the box and don’t be afraid to decorate with something outside of it’s intended use.

A white birdhouse with a plant growing inside it.

I am also sharing how to make this faux Terrarium over on Craftberry Bush today, I hope you will stop by to check it out!  Thanks so much friends and have a great day.

Well, aren’t you a brilliant decorator?!?! I’ve seen this rug online and loved it, but it is so much better the way you used it here. It adds a lot of great texture to the room.

Your terrarium looks amazing too. I was totally expecting a tutorial on making something like this out of wood and was shocked at how easy I could recreate what you made.

This would be perfect for my guest bedroom that doesn’t have a headboard at all. Is it still folded halfway while hanging up there?

Thank you Kristen and yes it is folded in half up there with long nails keeping it in place.
