DIY Tablecloth Tree Skirt: Easy, Affordable Christmas Hack
A few years ago, I needed a new tree skirt, and instead of buying one, I tried something unexpected, turning a round tablecloth into a cozy, custom tree skirt!
This easy DIY tablecloth tree skirt is one of the most affordable Christmas projects I’ve made, and it looks just as pretty as the store-bought versions. With just a few quick cuts and simple steps, you can create a beautiful base for your tree that adds warmth and charm to your holiday decor.

Even though I did this project in 2023, I never ended up sharing it on the blog, I am finally getting some photos up. I originally made a video showing how to do this, but wanted to make a spot for it on the blog as well. I took images from the video to make it work. This really is a favorite project of mine because it is so simple and works amazingly too!

It requires a basic round table cloth, this could be used with some thing you already have at home, a thrifted version or one you bought at the store to match your decorations! Lastly, you will need a pair of scissors. That is it! Seriously you only need those two things, and then the Christmas tree to set it under, haha!
Here are the easy steps I used to make this:

Fold the round table cloth one, twice and then three times until you get this slender shape below. I wasn’t too concerned with making things too precise so I just eyeballed it all.

Once you have it folded into thirds, lay it down and get ready to cut the center of the folded ends.

The bigger the cut, the bigger the hole will be. So make sure that you are keeping your tree base/pole in mind.

This project reminded me a bit of cutting out snowflakes from paper, except this project requires only one cut.

When you open the table cloth up you will see the center hole. This doesn’t need to be perfect, it will work just fine.

You will want to put your tree skirt on as you assemble your tree. When I have our tree split apart in sections, I slip the skirt on top of the base and slide the base pole into it. Then I layer the additional tree pieces on top so it isn’t too heavy to start. I have only done this with faux trees as I’m not sure how this would work with a real tree, watering and fitting it around.

There you have it! I first did this project years ago when my children were probably 3 or 4… I was thrifting all the time then and found a pretty white round table cloth. I knew immediately what I wanted to use it for and I still have that skirt to this day. In fact, I think it is going under our living room tree this year as I get things all set up. I’ve had my eye on a pretty blue floral round table cloth that I have wanted this season. Not sure I’ll get it, but again it’s a really fun way to mix decor up without spending a ton. The season can get expensive, so finding decorating hacks like this makes spending a little easier.

What a great easy thing to do for Christmas! I love to use different Christmas tree skirts – this will be an easy one! Thank you.
Great idea! I plan to try this!
