BEFORE

After

I’m still slightly shocked by the after because not only does it look so much better, I actually have more in here now than I started with in the messy before photo. To achieve this glow up for our linen closet, I started by taking everything out and really determined what we were still needing and what I was ready to get rid of. I didn’t get rid of much, a couple old towels and mismatched sheet sets.

I knew I wanted this to be an organized closet that would be easy upkeep for everyone in the family. There needed to be a specific place for all the necessary things so that when it came time to put things away or pull things out it was straightforward. I absolutely love mixing all the tones, textures and patterns even when it comes to organized so I also applied that principle to this project too!

BASKETS

In order to make things cohesive I decided to use seagrass baskets. Baskets of any sort would work too though. I was able to keep extra toilet paper rolls in one, washcloths in another and hand towels in the third. I staggered the look of things to keep the eye moving when everything was moving. Nothing felt too heavy or overdone on one set of shelves. I opted for lower profile baskets as I wanted to be able to see what was in them, but taller basket cubbies certainly could be used in a linen closet.

GLASS JARS

I incorporated glass jars that hold bath salts, soap, sponges, bandages and more. I love having these sprinkled throughout because they are visually pretty and functional because it groups items in a way that makes them easy to find. These are not items that are getting used frequently, but definitely have a need for in a linen closet. I also recommend incorporating a variety of sizes. I had that giant one already that was holding epsom salts, honestly it is almost too big… LOL. But I wanted to keep it since I had it and it works.

SIMPLE DECOR

Moving down the shelves we have this open space that I have always felt is tricky to style or use. I have put picture frames here before and liked that, but to change things up a put a faux plant and a cordless lamp. It gets dark in this little corner and having the small lamp brings warmth to the area. I may bring back a small frame to personalize things even more. It is so charming now!

SHEET ORGANIZERS

I added these sheet organizers to hold all the different bedding we own. I do have some really nice sets that I kept and still enjoy using. We also have guest sheets, pillow cases and shams I put into these containers. They are genius! You put your folded sheet set and then pull up, and zip the center to hold it all together. I still need to label them, but I am really liking these! Before, my sheets were crammed into fabric cubbies that were overflowing, because it just didn’t fit well.

MEDICINE ORGANIZER

Lastly, I purchased this medicine organizer. It has three compartments that snap together on the sides. I didn’t realize how much we needed this! It gave me the opportunity to organize all the different things and again, not just have one box stuffed randomly with all the necessities.

For our bath towels I chose to just fold these nicely and set them on the shelves. These are really our guest towels. I have it worked out that everyone has sets of towels for each bathroom that are all a little different. This makes sorting and laundry simple.

I kept things really monochromic overall in color and look. Everything is cream and white with basket textures. But you could certainly have fun here with different color baskets, patterned bath towels, vibrant soaps etc… Even though this space is hidden behind cabinet doors, it is a great way to personalize your spaces!

While I did buy some things new for this project, it is possible to do this on a budget by thrifting baskets/jars and purchasing things at the dollar store. Or you can go all out by getting luxury towels, boutique looking items and more! It is a makeover that works either way.
