DIY Orange and Magnolia Leaf Wreath
How To Make A DIY Orange And Magnolia Leaf Wreath
How I Put Together This Orange And Magnolia Leaf Wreath
This post is fitting today because I just shared our kitchen decorated with some Christmas. And this DIY orange and magnolia leaf wreath would be perfect in the kitchen! I am joining Jen from Tatertots and Jello with our friends who are also giving some great Christmas wreath ideas!
This wreath was pretty easy to pull altogether. I used a great I already had on hand (so you could really do this with any basic wreath). I grabbed all the extra faux magnolia leaves I had around too. I found some Dollar Store fruit that I knew I wanted to make over for this project. That meant I needed acrylic paints (orange, yellow, black and brown), baking soda (this creates the texture) as well as a glossy top coat. I also made sure to have a glue gun with glue sticks available to secure everything together.
To start, I simply inserted my magnolia leaves around the wreath. I did not glue yet as I wanted to get everything in place first.
Then I mixed together my paint colors for the faux oranges. As you can see I just was eyeballing it until I got the color I wanted. Once I had my color I slowly added baking soda until I had the consistency needed. I know this isn’t very exact, but with projects like these, you just do kind of need to try it until you get it where you want it with colors/textures.
I let the baking soda paint dry between layers and kept adding colors.
Once the oranges were dry I made sure to add a glossy top coat to them. I used the simple craft store version of top coats.
Now comes the fun part! I added the oranges throughout the wreath…
I sorta felt like something was missing, so I chose to incorporate baked orange slices. But you wouldn’t have to do this if you wanted to keep things a little less busy.
Honestly, I would have liked to have added some more greenery around this wreath. But I was out, haha! I have really reached my budget for Christmas decorating and projects this year. So I am more than happy with its fullness for now.
I hope you enjoyed and found some inspiration with this DIY orange and magnolia leaf wreath today!
