Our Living Room Organization and A Fresh Start For The New Year

Hello Friends! I had a goal at the start of January to go through each room in our house, give it a refresh/organize and then share with you (you can see that post here)… Well it is almost the end of January and I am now just getting to it, haha! Well that is real life and I am excited none the less. This project is keeping me motivated to share with you here. It is helping me to continue purging and get our home to a place that I have been craving. Less is more! So I am starting in our formal living room and let’s get to it!

I didn’t do much in here except clear out more stuff and take it for donations. I did move a larger faux plant we had to the corner and a new little one to the fireplace. And that was nearly it! I didn’t buy anything else new which felt so good…

I played musical pillows and traded them around the house.

As for organization, we store all the guest bedding here behind the pull-out sofa bed. We vacuum seal it into these bags and it works just great! We can slide it in and out as needed.

On the opposite little corner, we have our teeny office space. I have a little mobile rolling cart where I keep special books, regular office supplies and then all my camera equipment. The wall unit above folds out to another desk so the rolling cart can switch spots. This space fits one or two people and has been valuable to our family for lots of reasons. And oh my goodness, our front door opens here as I am seeing what has blown it that I haven’t vacuumed up before pictures… Yikes, lol. Again, real life!

While I have plans to tidy this space up a little more (like spray paint the rolling card and clean out the paper basket) this was much better than before! Of course this is still a work in progress, but just these little steps have made a big difference. And now I can have fun sprucing it up a little with more paint, accessories, flowers, etc… in the future!

That’s all I’ve got for now and hope it shows how you can get creative with very little space. Most importantly, that a refresh can be done by moving things around and clearing them out as well! I hope you enjoyed and thanks so much for visiting. Next week I hope to share our family room!

  1. Since everyone is cleaning up and purging these days,
I would like to know what to do with an old “pillow topper”
from my queen-size bed. I feel like there should be some way
that it can be recycled into something useful. I checked with
the dog shelters in our area, and they didn’t even want this.
Even if I roll it and tape it, that is a lot to put into the garbage!
Maybe some of your readers might have some ideas.
