Neutral Summer Decor Inspiration in the Family Room

I love the way I decorated my family room this year, in calm serene colors!

Hello there friends! We have been busy working on our kitchen lately, therefore most of my summer decor and gardening is a bit more behind this year! But I was so happy to be joining Sarah at She Holds Dearly for a set of seasonal tours this year. So today I am sharing some Neutral Summer Decor Inspiration in the Family Room!

I am also going to share some really simple tips to bring  summer into your home without having to go overboard if you do not want to!

The very first tip is to decorate with ferns! Ferns are such a beautiful calming plant and for some reason, they are my favorite to use this time of year.

As you can see above there are many varieties and all so pretty! These are actually faux, and while I love ferns, I have found that they can be a bit tricky to keep alive (my green thumb is to blame) which is why I enjoy the fake version too, haha.

Next incorporate baskets…

Of course baskets are great any time of year, but I feel they were made for summer. I like to sprinkle a couple here and there.

Now, add a new pillow cover here in a couple spots…

Pale light colored pillows on couch.

There is no rule for what color to add and you don’t have to trade out ALL your pillows. But I do love to do this with a couple pillows throughout the seasons. I found this taupe colored one recently at Ikea and it fit in perfectly with what we had going on in here already. I also took away some of the blue and traded it in for a bright/textural white throw pillow with pretty embroidery details.

Don’t forget to keep plants around…

I keep lots of greenery going (both faux and real) with plants in corners or atop tables.

In the summer months, I feel that less is more… So I really only have a couple decorations on the mantel.

Use your coffee table trays as the centerpiece to the room

I am using my rule of threes here with the trays sitting on our table (pedestal, candlestick and then fern). I layered trays again as well. Make sure to bring in texture with wood tones, shiny metals and repeat colors/patterns.

And there you have it! Some very easy serene ideas to get you going as you may start decorating for this wonderful time we call “summer”. I hope you enjoyed and I do really hope it is helpful! Make sure to visit these other lovely friends down below who are doing the same today…

Thanks so much for stopping by all!

    1. Hi Deb the throw is from Tuesday Mornings and the rug is from Wayfair, you can find it on my “shop” page. Thank you!!

  1. Refreshingly Beautiful. I love baskets as well and although I love pillows and lots of them also but I find too many seem to hinder guests and causing them that “where am I suppose to sit” look and hesitation. So I have scaled back on using so many of them and change them more often 🙂
Can you share where you purchased the throw on the back of the chair on the right? PLEASE 😉

  2. Wish you would have a shopping list of the items you show. It’s so lovely. Thanks, Rita
